Joel Carlson
Joel is an Associate Vice President with CPCS, a management consulting firm specializing in transportation sector policy, economics and strategy. He has dual Master’s degrees in Transportation and Engineering Systems from MIT and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta. Joel has over eight years of experience in rail and multimodal freight planning, engineering and policy analysis gained through assignments in the transportation consulting and railway industries, as well as from research at MIT. Some of his specific areas of interest include:
- rail and dangerous goods transportation safety, including the transportation of energy;
- urban, regional and national level goods movement and supply chain studies; and
- passenger and freight rail planning, including of multimodal facilities.
Prior to joining CPCS, Joel previously worked at the French National Railway Company (SNCF) and Canadian National Railway Company in research, engineering and planning roles.
Joel is based in Calgary, and originally from Prince Rupert, BC.
